The 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the coast of Chile on February 27, 2010 has spawned over 100 aftershocks and sparked a deadly tsunami that killed approximately 300 people. The current Chile earthquake death toll is at 802 and that number is expected to rise. As aftershocks continue (and several experts have indicated they may continue for several months) tsunami warnings and false alarms continue to sound.

The local non-profit humanitarian organization based in Haugesund, «Un poco más», contacted us, asking for support in shipping a 40′ container with emergency aid from Haugesund to Valparaiso mid March. We acted upon their request and agreed to finance part of this logistic operation. The final destination is set for the small fishing village Dichato where the organization has been very active. The village is located in the county of Tome, which is located about 35 kilomters from the city Concepion.

Images from the destruction of Dichato which was hit two times, first by the earthquake and then by the tsunami.

Fishing boats and large containers can be seen hundreds of meters from the shore, houses are on top of houses while other houses have been swept to sea.
