Johs. Sundfør was founded as early as 1862 by H. O. Sundfør and is today one of the oldest freight forwarding companies / ship broker / liner agencies in Norway. The business was in the early days based on export of herring between Norway, the European Continent and the Baltic States.

Between 1862 and 1908 Sundfør owned, fully or partial, no less than 18 ships. The most stunning one was the:

“Zippora” built in 1878 by John Hauge.

In 1903 H.O.Sundfør’s son , Johs. Sundfør took over the management and started in the business of ship broking.

In 1909 Johs. Sundfør was elected agent for Det Bergenske Dampskisselskap and was later selected as local representative for Wilh. Wilhelmsen, Fred Olsen & Co and Den Norske Middelhavslinje.

In 1919 Johs. Sundfør was elected Vice Consul and decorated with the British order “Member of the British Empire” for his services during World War 1.

The management was in 1923 taken over by Jan Sundfør. His son Johannes Sundfør took over in 1972. Followed by his son, Jan Sundfør, who took over the management of the company in 2000. The company has through more than 140 years and 5 generations grown into a full range freight forwarder & ship agency mounting it’s business on solid experience and service for the customers.
